There is no surprise I am a pretty black-and-white chic. To me, in nearly every case, there is a right or wrong, whether it is morally, physically, financially, and more. I am a rule follower. And I give everyone respect unless I am proven otherwise. YES, I realize there are areas of gray, but with what I am about to say, you will hop on my bandwagon. Trust me.
If you are reading this, I hope for two things: either you are affected personally, or you know someone you can share my lovely thoughts with. I will be direct.
Are you a construction worker, electrician, plumber, or roofer? Yes, then I will give you a little advice. When you get hired by someone to work on their property – the items they worked their asses off to purchase and spend their waking hours taking care of, deserve respect! Those assets you are servicing ARE NOT yours, but you are being trusted to treat them as if they are.
You receive a key to the house. You move their precious heirlooms, new painting, decorations, clothes, and dishes. Again, you are being trusted and being paid. You have responsibilities. Hard-earned money purchased this home and all of its belongings, and, by the way, in case you forgot, we are also paying you our hard-earned money to repair and rebuild our home.
You ripped apart and replaced walls, ceilings, the roof, insulation, electrical work, ceiling lights, and fans. At this point, I am trying to figure out if you did more damage or the hurricane did. #jokingnotjoking
We just moved back into our home after living in an extended-stay hotel for six months. And every single day, I become more and more disgusted and furious. I am livid that you left fast food bags in our flower beds. Just in case you don’t know, food draws bugs. Thanks. I am livid that you left chicken wings in our flower pots. OMG. Really. I am livid that you used our oven – trust me, my oven is spotless, and the cheese from your damn pizzas isn’t coming off easily. I am livid that you aren’t smart enough to use drop cloths to keep paint off our new refrigerator, shoes, garage floor, and toilet. SERIOUSLY.
Go ahead and disrespect your own property, but not ours! Oh yeah, I have lots of pictures of your lovely work. The phone calls will be made, and unfortunately, you are about to be schooled. I rarely get furious. I am a team player and look at the positive in all situations, but I am telling you – you are about to get a piece of me!
So for those of you who are in this type of service industry or you know someone who is, give them a lesson about respect. Unfortunately for us, we live in a state where there is so much of this type of work needed that workers no longer care about complaints, nonetheless positive referrals. They arrive late, if at all, leave early, do shitty jobs, and then they bounce.
Thank you so much for letting me vent. I already beat up a pillow, and it wasn’t pretty.
